(coming soon!)

I've worked with Smooradian a few times over the years on various full song covers and other collabs. When we first started chatting about adding piano to a track, I jumped at the chance to dig into something a little more, coarse? Harsh? Dunno, definitely more angular and twisty than the type of music I normally record for. While this song actually hasn't ended up being released (and if it does, it'll be reworked significantly enough that I'll probably rewrite the piano parts anyway), I was still pretty happy with some of the ideas I had come up with, so Sam gave me the go ahead to release this snippet just for fun.

In the past couple of years, I have been working on finding freedom within a click track - projects like the Seeg solo, Thrailkill solo, and this one are good steps in that direction - allowing the phrase to line up for a moment with the track and then bounce off to its own thing, larger polyrhythms that skate overtop the beats a little more smoothly, and some rhythms that are more general than specific (such as m. 18 in this solo, where it's just a gradually accelerating series of notes within the measure, nothing particularly metered about it). Operating just as much by feel as by where the click is. Hope you enjoy digging in to the crunchy chords and twisty licks.
